Grocery Program Guidelines

Grocery Image.png

1. Clients must be 65+ years old and living independently to be in the Grocery Assistance Program.

2. Clients must have a working phone to be the Grocery Assistance Program.

3. Clients must have an emergency contact on file to be in the Grocery Assistance Program.

4. Admission to the program will be based on staff intake interviews and HUD income guidelines – both are designed to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most.

5. At the beginning of each month, the Grocery Coordinator will make contact with each client to compile his/her grocery list.

NOTE: Normal (non-sale) pricing will be used when compiling client lists each month.

6. The Grocery Coordinator will make three documented attempts to contact a client regarding his/her list before the 10th of each month. If the client cannot be contacted or does not have a grocery list compiled when contacted, a substitute client will be used for that month.

7. If a client knows they will be unavailable for a significant amount of time during the month, it is imperative to contact the office as soon as possible so alternate delivery arrangements can be made.

8. The goal of the Grocery Program is to compile the lists for all clients by the 10th of each month and for delivery to be made within 10-14 days. It is our goal to ensure that everyone gets their groceries in a timely manner. Consistency and convenience for the client are also important considerations. It is acceptable for a client to request a particular delivery day (after the 10th) when their shopper initially contacts them.

9. Once a client's list is compiled, they cannot contact their volunteer to request extra purchases. The program budget is set at $55 for each client. If their volunteer shopper has money remaining after shopping their list, they may contact their client to ask how they would like to spend their remaining funds. Rollover of significant funds from month to month will not occur.

10. Verbal/Physical abuse towards our staff and volunteers will not be tolerated. Anyone who acts in an abusive manner will be dismissed from the program.
