Companionship
Samaritan Caregivers offers volunteer shopping for homebound seniors, providing grocery assistance scheduled in advance to ensure comfort and convenience. Through our Adopt-A-Grandparent Pen Pal program, students, groups, and individuals send monthly notes and holiday greetings to brighten seniors’ days and foster meaningful community connections.
Grocery Assistance
Each month, Samaritan Caregivers volunteers shop for and deliver groceries to homebound seniors, providing up to $60 in essentials from local stores at no cost to recipients. This vital service, available to 45 seniors, is made possible through the generous support of community partners including the City of Kokomo, Community Howard Regional Health, Center Township, Shiloh United Methodist Church, and Hunger Heroes donors.
Medicare Counseling
Samaritan Caregivers offers free, confidential Medicare counseling through the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). Trained volunteer counselors provide unbiased, local support to help individuals and families understand their Medicare options. In-person appointments are available Monday through Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Kokomo.
Transportation
Volunteers provide weekly transportation for ambulatory seniors within Howard County, helping them reach medical appointments, stores, banks, and more. Each ride is scheduled in advance, with the option for volunteers to stay with or drop off the senior, offering dependable support and friendly companionship along the way.
